Hawthorn. Cayenne. Garlic. What do these three plants have in common? They all have the reputed ability to alleviate the symptoms of heart disease. While you shouldn't throw all your conventional medications out the window, you may want to consider augmenting your present treatment with some herbal remedies.

Hawthorn is a flowering plant found not only in North America, but also Europe, western Asia and North Africa. Used widely as a natural heart remedy, the parts of the plants normally used are both the leaves and the flowers.

It is especially useful at alleviating the symptoms of congestive heart failure, but its works amazingly well on angina, cardiac arrhythmia – known as high blood pressure – and hardening of the arteries.

Why does hawthorn work? The leaves, berries and the flowers of this plant contain several different kinds of bioflavonoids which seem to be responsible for its ability to help reduce the symptoms of heart disease.

Garlic, that pungent plant that's an amazing addition to just about any meal, is also legendary for its ability to help conquer the symptoms of heart disease, especially lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure, as well as thinning the blood to prevent blood clots.

Even the scientific community recognizes the benefits of this plant. Since the 1980s, clinical trials have proven time and again that garlic works just as well as any medication – and without the harmful side effects – at alleviating heart disease symptoms.

It's one of the most popular herbal remedies around. Its popularity is evidence by the myriad of forms you can find garlic supplements and by the number of stores that carry this supplement.

In order to stay heart healthy it is a must that you know the methods of keeping oneself healthy. One of the major factors that help you keep fit is the levels of cholesterol in your body. While most think that cholesterol brings only ill effects, there is a positive side to cholesterol too.

Cholesterol is actually a wax like substance that is produced by the liver whose levels are increased to greater levels by consuming the foods that contain it.

The fact is that there are two kinds of cholesterol, the HDL cholesterol and the LDL cholesterol. The former is called good cholesterol and helps the body function better and stands for High density lipo protein. The other stands for Low density lipo protein and is the root cause of all the cholesterol related problems. Here are the negative effects of LDL cholesterol.

The heart is theorgan that suffers most at the hands of excessive amounts of LDL cholesterol. While the HDL cholesterol helps in enhancing the health of the heart, the LDL destroys it. Most heart complications take place as a result of the increased levels of LDL cholesterol .

When the LDL or bad cholesterol surpasses permissible limits, it accumulates along the inner walls of the arteries making it difficult for the free flow of blood. This condition is medically called atherosclerosis and is one of the troubles that the vascular regions encounter.

Atherosclerosis can decrease the flow of blood to the heart and can also deprive the various organs of the required oxygen. This can eventually cause complications in other parts of the body.

When there is not enough blood flowing into the heart, it is likely that coronary artery disease will happen. The narrowing of the arteries is the main reason for this condition.

Chest pain, neck and back pain, abdominal pain, excessive sweating and shortness of breath also occur when a person suffers from coronary heart disease.

When the case is severe, heart attacks also called myocardial infarctions are also possible, which may sometimes prove to be fatal. It is therefore recommended that you avoid junk food and switch over to heart healthy food .

Another major problem related to cholesterol is obesity, which lays the foundation for many other health impediments. This is because of the accrual of the fat along the liver. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the other health issues that LDL cholesterol can cause indirectly.

Use This Guide To Avoid The World's No. 1 Killer

For men and women of any age, cardiovascular disease may be the number 1 killer. It kills a lot more people than ALL different types of tumors joined together. If you're black or over 65, your chance of heart disease is greater, but it's an equal opportunity destroyer. Any one, any place, at anytime may have a cardiac event [1].

Myth #1: Solely older individuals need to be concerned about their heart.

The things that might lead to a heart attack accumulate over the years.

Being a couch-potato, boredom eating and simply not doing exercises are typically improper habits that may possibly begin in child years. Alot more physicians are starting to get patients of strokes in their twenty's and thirty's as an alternative to victims usually in their 50's and sixty's.

Being fit and at the ideal body weight is not going to make you safe from strokes. However, both regular exercise and keeping a good weight does help. In the end you want to check your high cholesterol and blood pressure level. A really good blood cholesterol (or lipid profile) quantity is lower than 2 hundred. The best blood pressure level is 120/80.

Myth #2: I'd feel unwell if I had high blood pressure levels or high cholesterol levels.

They label these, "silent killers" due to the fact that they present NO warning signs. 30 % of all mature people have high blood pressure. Of those, one-third don't know they've got it.

High cholesterol levels is a measure of the fats maintained by your blood. Fats could be dropped anywhere in your body, but tend to congregate all around body organs. As well as your heart. This predisposition may run in families. So, even if you are at a good bodyweight and do not smoke cigarettes, have your cholesterol and blood pressure checked regularly. Once isn't sufficient [2].

Myth #3: Men and women DON'T have the same warning signs.

Women and men CAN have the same indicators, but they typically do not. Females are more likely to get the subtler signs or symptoms while males more frequently experience the form of strokes you can view in the movie films. But, either gender CAN have any indicators and symptoms.

These subtler signs or symptoms, for example jaw achiness, nausea or vomiting, breathlessness and intense physical weakness, are likely to get defined away. "My jaw hurt since my lunch sandwich was on whole-grain bread and I needed to chew very hard," or , while clutching their stomach, "I should not have had that additional piece of pizza." "Half of women do not have chest pain at all," states Kathy Magliato, a heart expert at California's St. John's Health Center. Put all the little signs alongside one another and pay attention to your whole body.

Certainly, both men and women could experience the
"grab-your-chest-and-fall-down-gasping" kind of stroke, but now you realize, that's not the only way.

Myth #4: Given that my sugar level is under control, Being diabetic is absolutely not a heart threat.

Though keeping your blood sugar level with a proper range (80ml-120ml) keeps you healthier and stronger, just having the added blood sugar in your body takes its toll on arteries. You'll need doing exercises and eating healthier to help control your type ii diabetes, but don't forget to test your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, too.

Myth #5: My health practitioner would order medical tests if I were at risk for cardiovascular disease.

From time to time, we all forget to inform the physician the little spasms we're feeling. The physicians, with no knowledge of some of the things we deem as unimportant, can pass over heart checks.

"Mammograms and Colonoscopies are normally prescribed by doctors," says Merdod Ghafouri, a cardiologist at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, [3] "and are usually very important, but heart scans aren't normally done." A cardiac scan can find plaque build-up inside the arteries before you even discover you've got a problem.

Do you have the motor oil pressure and transmission liquid tested in your car or truck? Have other preventive routine service done? Doesn't your only heart merit as much attention as your auto?

There could be any number of causes for this congestive heart failure.

There could be any number of causes for this congestive heart failure. In some people, it's caused by coronary artery disease, in others it's caused by the healing process of a past heart attack. As the heart heals, scar tissue naturally forms. This scar tissue interferes with the heart muscle's normal functioning. High blood pressure may prompt congestive heart failure, as may heart valve disease.

Conventional medicine has several drugs that treat congestive heart failure. They include ACE inhibitors and vasodilators. Both of these expand the blood vessels to help the blood flow through the narrowed openings faster as well as decrease the resistance of the flow. This helps the heart to work easier and more efficiently.

Another prescription medication that's used is a beta blocker. This drug improves the pumping action of the lower left chamber of the heart. Digitalis also increases the heart's ability to pump stronger. Sometimes diuretics are also prescribed. This helps the body to get rid of the excess salt and water it's been retaining.

If at all possible, physicians try to treat the root cause of the heart failure. If, for example, the cause is high blood pressure, the symptoms of congestive heart failure should be lessened if the blood pressure were lowered.

A high cholesterol level puts you at an increased risk of developing heart disease.

A high cholesterol level puts you at an increased risk of developing heart disease. Ironically, cholesterol is a natural substance that helps your body not only build new cells, but it also insulates the nerves and produces hormones.

Your body produces this substance, but you also accumulate additional cholesterol through the foods you eat, especially from animal-based foods such as milk, eggs and meat.

If you have too much cholesterol in your system, it accumulates on the sides of your arteries' walls. With enough time and cholesterol, this build up causes hardening of the arteries or atherosclerosis.

No doubt, you already know that there are two types of cholesterol – LDL and HDL. LDL stands for low-density lipoprotein. This is what is commonly referred to as "bad cholesterol," and is the main cause of the plaque which lines the arteries causing the blockage of blood.

HDL is known most simply as the "good cholesterol," and is the abbreviation for high-density lipoprotein. This form of cholesterol actually works against the LDL and clears the arteries. Your total cholesterol level should be no higher than 200 for it to be in the healthy range.

If you have a total cholesterol level of 200 to 239, then your level is considered to be borderline high. Anything over 240, however, is considered high and needs the attention of a physician.

Consult your doctor to discover the ratio you need of good and bad cholesterol to keep your heart risk low.

Another contributor to fat in you bloodstream is called triglycerides. Less well known than cholesterol, triglycerides can be just as deadly. Research clearly shows that a high level of this fat is closely linked to your chances of developing heart disease. The higher your triglyceride level, the better odds you have of developing a heart-related problem.

There are exciting new natural and alternative treatments for high blood pressure (hypertension) being studied every day.

There are exciting new natural and alternative treatments for high blood pressure (hypertension) being studied every day. Natural and alternative treatments tend to have fewer and less severe side effects than prescription medications.

According to recent studies, everything from vitamin supplements to meditation can help to improve your blood pressure. One easy change to make is the addition of olive oil to your diet.. Replacing saturated fat with olive oil can significantly improve your blood pressure and overall health.

There is speculation that the polyphenols in olive oil could be the reason it is considered beneficial. Fish oil is another dietary addition that has shown some promising results. Including salmon twice a week as part of your nutrition plan, or eating other fatty fish, like sardines, can help lower blood pressure in hypertensive people, though the effect on people with normal blood pressure has not yet been determined.

One theory is that some cases of hypertension are caused by a dysfunction of the endothelial vasodilator mechanism. The amino acid L-argnine has been shown to be very effective in reversing this dysfunction. Taken either intravenously or orally, it may correct or prevent hardening of the arteries, and increase the coronary blood flow to the heart.

Some herbs showing good preliminary results are coleus forskohlii, which may lower blood pressure and improve heart function, and hawthorn, which helps dilate coronary blood vessels to lower blood pressure.

Rauwolfia is considered the most potent hypertensive herbal remedy, because only a small dose is required, and the side effects are limited, the most severe being nasal congestion. Finding options in your local health food store can be as easy as buying vitamin supplements containing 1000 mg of vitamin C and 800-1500 mg of calcium.

Consulting with a professional herbalist will help you formulate a plan to find what works best for you, but don't be afraid to also discuss vitamins and herbal remedies with your doctor.

Eastern style medicine has also become more accepted in the American medical community as a complement to routine medical treatments. You also may consider adding tai chi, or yoga for keeping your body limber. This will help make life easier for your heart by increasing blood flow.

With life seemingly more stressful for each generation, learning to manage stress naturally is a crucial skill to obtain. Whether you prefer to write in a journal, or become comfortable and familiar with meditation, any form of stress reduction is beneficial for your well-being.

Exercise has also been shown to be helpful for dealing with daily stress. Combining an exercise program with healthy dietary choices will give you the energy you need to deal with the rigors of everyday life.

Researching natural and alternative medicine has been made much easier with the Internet. Even your local library or bookstore can offer a wealth of information, including recent studies of many different herbal and natural alternatives that are available.

Finding a natural treatment to reduce hypertension, whether it is through changes in lifestyle or herbal remedies, can save you a lot of money and have potential life changing effects. Remember to speak with your physician about your interest in alternative treatments and bring the appropriate research to your appointment if necessary.

If you are suffering from congestive heart failure and you're concerned about potential side effects of the prescription medications you need to take, you are not alone.

If you are suffering from congestive heart failure and you're concerned about potential side effects of the prescription medications you need to take, you are not alone.

One potential solution is trying herbal remedies. Natural medicines have been around for centuries, and they complement your body's natural healing capabilities, while also being much safer than synthetic drugs.

Herbal remedies can be extremely beneficial for heart conditions, even for a condition as serious as congestive heart failure. One of the most highly regarded herbs for heart health is hawthorn. For many professional herbalists, hawthorn
is synonymous with heart. It's history dates all the way back to the 1st century A.D., when the Greek herbalist, Dioscordes, reportedly used this herbal remedy to treat his patients.

Because this herb has such a high concentration of bioflavanoids, the fowers, leaves, and berries can all be used to help treat congestive heart failure. The bioflavanoids appear to be the reason hawthorn is beneficial for the heart.

Quercetin, which is well known for being beneficial to heart health, is one of the flavanoids found in hawthorn. Oligomeric (also known as OPC's), and hyperoside are two other compounds found in hawthorn that are considered beneficial for the heart.

Hawthorn can combat the increased cholesterol levels, along with the lack of vitamins, and keep the potential heart problems at bay in smoking individuals. Keeping the body weight under control by working out on some fitness equipment is also desired, to keep the heart healthy. For weight loss, some safe method should be followed rather than a cosmetic surgery, to avoid any health hazards. Also, some of the plastic surgery procedures do not give permanent results.

If you're a woman, don't expect your angina pain to be in the neck. More often than not angina shows up in the female as a stabbing pain the back. Other symptoms of coronary artery disease include shortness of breath, irregular heart beats, a faster heart beat, or skipped beats.

Those who have experienced this describe it as a "flip-flop" sensation in the chest. Nausea, sweating, and a weakness or dizziness may be experienced as well. However, a heart attack can occur without any of the traditional symptoms. This is called a "silent heart attack." Many times an individual never even knows he has experienced this until later, when tests taken for another reason reveal damage to the heart.

Another form of heart disease is arrhythmia. Sometimes referred to as arrhythmia, this health condition is simply known as an irregular heartbeat. About 850,000 people are admitted into the hospital yearly for this condition.

The causes of arrhythmia are varied, including coronary artery disease, an imbalance in electrolytes, changes in the heart muscle and even injuries your heart incurred during a heart attack. As amazing as it seems, even the healing process following heart surgery can cause an arrhythmia.

Finally, there's hope on the horizon for individuals with congestive heart failure. By using a combination of different drugs, physicians are able to control the majority of symptoms of this cardiovascular problem and provide their patients with a higher quality of life.

Physicians normally begin treatment with a group of medications known as ACE inhibitors. ACE is short for angiotensin converting enzyme. This medication has been used for more than two decades in controlling high blood pressure.

They work by literally blocking the formation of angiotensin II. This is a hormone that contains a host of potentially adverse side effects on the heart and circulatory system of those individuals who have heart failure.

Most recently, researchers recognize that ACE inhibitors demonstrate an amazing ability to not only improve the systems of congestive heart failure, but also prevent the deterioration of the condition. This, in effect, helps those life longer, happier lives. Physicians are excited by these new uses for an older drug.

While ACE inhibitors possess some side effects, including a dry cough, problems with kidney function and even may cause an imbalance in electrolytes in the system, both physicians and patients seem to think the potential dangers are worth the immense benefits.

Examples of ACE inhibitors include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Zestril and Prinivil), benazepril (Lotensin) and ramipril (Altace).

The best way to protect yourself from problems with your cholesterol levels and any other heart related conditions, is through exercise and dietary changes.

The best way to protect yourself from problems with your cholesterol levels and any other heart related conditions, is through exercise and dietary changes.

Removing, or reducing the amount of simple starches and sugars in your diet can reduce potential plaque build up in your arteries. This can greatly reduce your chances of getting a blockage large enough to cause severe heart problems, or even a heart attack.

Eating plenty of vegetables and fruits is essential, because they can help to provide the extra vitamins and nutrients necessary to keep your heart healthy. Vitamins A, C and E are important for maintaining a healthy heart and circulatory system, as are calcium, potassium, magnesium, chromium and selenium. You can get these essential nutrients by taking herbal or vitamin supplements every day, along with making the right food choices.

There are a large variety of herbal remedies that can help to strengthen, tone and maintain your heart and circulatory system. These herbal remedies don't alter your cholesterol levels directly, instead, they work to enhance the overall health of your heart and your body. This, in turn, will help to normalize your cholesterol levels.

Herbal supplements that are naturally high in vitamins and nutrients are an excellent choice to use for a daily vitamin. Alfalfa is one such herb that is rich in a variety of vitamins and minerals, and it can help your body to digest and use other plant based foods and herbs more effectively.

Parsley is another herb that is rich in vitamins. It contains three times the amount of Vitamin C as citrus, and is also hogh in iron, calcium, potassium, magnessium and several other essential nutrients.

Kelp is rich in a variety of B vitamins, as well as magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron. Kelp can also help to regulate your thyroid, which provides the additional benefit of boosting your metabolism and energy levels. This will help you to lose weight, which is a high priority for helping to normalize your cholesterol levels.

Natural remedies for lowering blood cholesterol levels reduce the risk of heart strokes. According to the researches at la fitness, on average, 60% of the population follows a weight management strategy that involves taking vitamins supplements. Others prefer the exercise plans, by using the fitness equipment, or the simple workouts that can be performed at home such as crunches and pilates.
