Natural Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction can be caused by a variety of underlying psychological and physical factors, and can often be treated naturally using nutritional therapy.
Two of the more common physical factors are nerve damage and reduced blood flow to the penis. Some of the conditions that can be contributing factors to erectile dysfunction include hormone disorders, vascular disease, drug use, diabetes, neurological disorders, a venous leak, radiation therapy, surgery, pelvic trauma, or psychological conditions.
A zinc deficiency can disrupt the maturation of the reproductive organs, and interfere with reproductive processes and functions. It can be a contributing factor to impotence, lack of appetite, chronic diarrhea, and undesirable and unhealthy weight loss. Slow healing of wounds and hair loss are also associated with a lack of zinc.
Reduced mental function, open sores in the mouth and on the skin, and unusual tastes in the mouth can also be attributed to a zinc deficiency. Be sure to include foods that are high in zinc in your diet. Fortified cereals, red meat, peanuts, almonds, oysters, soy foods, chickpeas, and dairy products are an example of zinc rich foods.
Zinc is also important for several internal processes, and it helps to support reproduction, the immune system, and the nervous system.
To reduce the occurence of erectile dysfunction, you should also include other essential minerals and vitamins in your diet. Eat plenty of fruits, whole grains, vegetables, nuts, beans, olive oil, soy, and cold water fish (tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines and halibut).
Avoid, or at least reduce the amount of dairy products, fried foods, refined foods, caffeine, and junk foods you consume. You should also remove any foods that you may have been sensitive to in the past from your diet, as they may contibute to erectile dysfunction as well.
Drink lots of water, and try to avoid smoking and alcohol, as they are known to be contributing factors.
Erectile dysfunction can be a recurring or chronic problem, or it can occur as an isolated incident. It was assumed in the past to be mainly a psychological condition, but a lot of doctors and therapists today believe that the majority of cases have some physical basis.
