Herbal Pain Remedies
Any discussion about herbal pain remedies should begin with the herb, White Willow. White Willow (Salix alba) is the source of aspirin and several well known anti-inflammatory medicines, including the NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) Ibuprofen, Motrin and Aleve.
This herbal pain remedy is all natural and doesn't cause the potentially dangerous side effects associated with some prescription and over the counter medications. White willow works to reduce fever, relieve pain and reduce inflammation, making it a safe and effective remedy for people who suffer from arthritis.
The main ingredient in White Willow is a natural substance known as Salicin. The body works to naturally convert Salicin into Salicylic Acid, which unlike standard aspirin, does no harm to the stomach.
If you decide to try White Willow, make sure you purchase quality White Willow supplements and not just a product that claims to have White Willow in it. Gel caps containing 100% pure White Willow will give you the best results.
Also, if you have taken large doses of synthetic pain relievers in the past, your body may not respond the same to white willow. For instance, when comparing the dosage amounts, if you usually take 2 extra strength Tylenol to relieve pain, you may need to take 3 or 4 white willow supplements due to lower doses per pill.
Another well known herbal pain remedy is Valerian Root. Valerian Root is an effective and powerful antispasmodic that can help to calm the body. It's known as a pain reliever, that also helps to promote sleep with no narcotic effects. It also works to calm heart palpitations.
Valerian has been taken for a number of pain related issues, including muscle cramps and spasms, menstrual cramps, headaches, childbirth after pains and arthritis.
Remember to consult you doctor before taking any herbal supplements to avoid any potential conflicts with other medications.
