Home Remedies for Constipation

In the United States, more than three million people suffer from constipation each year, while more than two million also suffer from IBS or irritable bowel syndrome.

While there can be many different causes for constipation, there are also several home remedies for constipation that can help to provide relief.

-Start with drinking a minimum of six glasses of water per day to help speed up digestion and make bowel movements easier.

-Adding mangoes to your diet can help to get the bowels moving. Eating a mango in the morning and another in the evening after dinner will guarantee at least two trips to the bathroom before bedtime.

-Molasses, though high in calories, is also very effective. Because of it's strong taste, you should mix it with milk or fruit juice before taking it. 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses should do the job.

-Half a cup of cabbage juice, 2 times a day is an extremely effective treatment for constipation.

-For instant relief from constipation, pour water into a copper container and leave it overnight. Drink the water the next day and you will be making a quick trip to the toilet.

-Add some roasted black gram powder to chapatti made of wheat (with the husks) to help enhance constipation relief.

-Mix half a glass of water with Epsom salts (4 to 1 mixture) for fast relief. You can also try pouring a sachet of Andrew’s Liver Salt into a glass of water and gulping it down quickly.

-Make a mixture of warm milk and Spiegel seeds. Dip the seeds (5-10g) into warm milk (about 200g), then add sugar to provide effective relief from constipation..

For those who suffer from chronic constipation, make a drink of figs dipped in water first thing in the morning. When taken in large amounts, this concoction will have you making a mad dash to the bathroom.
