Treating Heart Disease Naturally: Part 2

Walking – even at a leisurely pace – can help improve your heart health more than you ever dreamed of. As little as 30 minutes a day three times a week can help improve your general health – and strengthen your heart.

Now doctors tell us we don't even have to walk 30 minutes straight. You can break it up into three periods of 10 minutes if you want! What great news for those who are recovering from surgery or just don't have the time throughout the day to devote a half hour to walking.

Water! Drink water! Drinking water is nature's way of repairing cells. Don't worry much about those sports drinks. One, they're expensive – water isn't necessarily as expensive. And those drinks are saturated with sugar. Our bodies need – even crave – plain water. Our kidneys need them to eliminate waste.

Also, when your kidneys are working well, it helps to make your medication more effective. Water additionally re-hydrates your body's cells, which in turn, helps them to repair themselves faster. Providing your body with plenty of water also helps in building new tissue.

So how much water should you drink? Most experts say a minimum of eight glasses of water daily is a healthy amount. If you're trying to lose weight, make sure you drink a glass of water about 20 minutes before eating. You'll find that it helps to fill you up so you don't eat as much.

And finally, another method of treating heart disease naturally is to limit the amount of salt you use daily. Oh, yes, this is easier said than done. Unfortunately, salt is everywhere. Pick up a frozen dinner, look at the sodium content. It usually ranges around 1200 mg. – far more than you need in one sitting.

Granted, some are more salt sensitive when it comes to heart problems than others. But reducing your salt through more natural food choices as well as seasoning with other spices can go a long way to helping your heart health improve.
